How to Better a Bad Day

Bad days suck. Just putting that out there. One minute you feel like you could conquer the world, and then as soon as you know it, you feel like everyone's against you and nothing's going your way. Nothing but negative thoughts run through your head, and there are points when you just want to go home and give up. Bouncing back from a day gone wrong is pretty tough, but keeping a positive attitude while going through a bad day is even tougher. However, being happy is the sure-fire cure for a terrible day. And thankfully, it doesn't take a ton to be happy again.

~Wear Your Favorite Outfit
If you know that you are going to be facing a rough day, look cute! Putting on sweatpants and throwing your hair into a messy bun is easy and comfy, but it can make you feel lazy. Instead, pick out your favorite outfit and shoes, and style your hair in a cute and girly pony tail or leave it down with a headband. Put on mascara and your favorite lip gloss. Never feel like you have to change anything about yourself to feel beautiful and confident, because you are already so gorgeous by just being you, but knowing that you are willing to make time for yourself can give you an extra boost of confidence to face the day.

~Do Something Silly
Make yourself laugh. Nothing gets rid of a grumpy attitude like laughter. Watch funny videos on YouTube, take crazy pictures with your siblings, watch a comedy, or hang out with that friend that makes you laugh until your sides ache. Not only will you be in a much better mood, but a lot of the things that were worrying you may not seem as important as they were. The tension and the stress that you feel during the day will be laughed off, and you may be able to look at your situation with a much clearer head. Don't be afraid to do something outrageous. Go out to dinner with friends and act like a goofball. Walk around your neighborhood singing songs at the top of your lungs. It feels so good to just let yourself be crazy and silly after a rough day. Don't let anything hold you back.

~Plan Something With Friends
Looking forward to something will always help you take your mind off of all the negative stuff that is occurring around you. Planning a night out/in with your best friends never fails to lift your spirits. Buy tickets to that one movie you wanted to see. Pick a date for a sleepover and go to the store and buy as much junk food as you possibly can. The possibilities are endless. Make sure you choose the friends that you love and you know will be there for you and will let you have a good time. It's never any fun when you end up hanging with a negative friend after a rough day. Great friends will always be there for you, and I guarantee spending some time with them will flip your day around.

~Do Something You Love
Sometimes you just need to enjoy yourself. Do anything and everything that you love doing. Listen to your favorite band, or tear through that book series that makes you fall in love with reading over and over again. Draw, write a song, play the piano, dress up, whatever! It doesn't matter what you decide to do as long as you know it makes you happy. Take the time to just enjoy life and forget about your bad day, if only for a little while.

~Relax and Allow Time For Yourself
Nothing's worse on a bad day than feeling rushed around all the time. Make some time for yourself, even if it's only a few minutes. Lay down in bed, write in a journal, listen to music, read a little bit, or just breathe. Sometimes taking a moment in such a rushed day can make all the difference.

PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS (links included)
Listen to a "feel good" song: I suggest Don't Stop Me Now by Queen.
Watch a funny movie.
Look at inspirational quotes or funny pictures.
Read a good book.

No matter how you your day is going, always try to keep a positive attitude on life. If it's just a rough time, remember its only one bump in a very long road, and there are so many more happy days ahead of you. Always feel confident in yourself and who you are as a person. I feel like our culture so often rejects the idea of being different, of being an individual. If the world seems to have a problem with you, shrug it off your shoulders and strut your stuff. Do the things that make you happy, and your day will turn around so quickly.

Lots of love,
Madison
